Agreed - if someone's looking for a book project, one that explores design and development patterns via real-world situations would be fantastic.

That book exists, it's called Deisgn Patterns Explained. It's one of the best books I've read this year. I liked the first edition so much that I'm currently reading through the second edition (which seems twice as thick).
