A Picture Share!

The coronet has finally closed. With the Alexandria also gone, now hardly any of my neighborhood theatres smell like pee. :-(

Oh my god! How can they close the Coronet right before the opening of the last Star Wars movie? That is just criminal. That was the best place to watch those movies.

Some Coronet memories:

my first time watching Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind. The sounds quality doubled the impact of the movie. People were really pissed that they had to stop showing Star Wars there to show some stupid movie called Close Encounters, but they actually ended up loving the movie and it had long lines for weeks.

The line circling the block for Return of the Jedi, some of my friends camping out for days and getting their picture in the paper.

Seeing Batman the first day and the camera breaking, delaying the movie for two hours and being entertained by dancing cat women in the front of the theater to cheering crowds.

Watching Rambo III with my friends Mark and Julsi with a six pack of some microbrew... ten other people in the giant theater. Every time Rambo kicked some ass the whole theater would go "RAMBO" in that funny voice for the toy ads and crack up. When the movie got slow we'd roll beer bottles down under the seats and crack up over the funny noises they made boucing around like a giant pachinko machine.

Walking afterwards to Georgio's.

Trautman: It's over, Johnny. It's over!

Rambo: Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off! You asked me I didn't ask you! And I did what I had to do to win, for somebody who wouldn't let us win! Then I come back to the world, and I see all those maggots at the airport, protestin' me, spittin', callin' me a baby killer and all kinds of vile crap! Who are they to protest me?! Huh?! Who are they?! Unless they been me and been there and know what the hell they yellin' about!
