Dragging URLs in Safari

DrunkenBatman off-handedly writes in Of URLwell for Mac OS X:
It's not as though I wasn't aware of being able to drag a URL from the address bar to a folder in the bookmarks bar...
Damn. I'm certainly glad he knew because I had absolutely no idea! That's some pretty sweet UI-ness.

  • Was this not one of the first 3 things SJ demonstrated when Safari debuted?

  • Is this not something Firefox has done forever?

  • Firefox's dragging features are not as complete, due to it being only a halfway-native app. When I was working on my text editor project, I added a feature where if you dragged a URL onto it from Safari, the app would fetch the source of that page into the editing window. Wasn't possible with Firefox.

  • I just dragged a URL from Firefox onto the desktop, into TextEdit, SubEthaEdit, and Word, and into the address bar in Safari, where the page came up. From a user, not a developer, point of view that seems fairly complete. Is this post about developer capabilities?

Just to continue my trolling, here's my beef: so many authors of this site, so few posts, so much potential, and then we get a post about dragging URLs?

  • I was talking from a developer perspective, yeah. Personally I like Camino better as a Safari alternative. I still like nifty Firefox stuff like the Web Developer plugin of course.

  • Anon: yeah, he probably did. I haven't watched a keynote in about eight years. I like teh shiny, not teh hypy.

Dave: yeah, you're right. It sucks when life gets in the way of blogging but such is....
