Don't want to wait a year for multi-protocol iChat? Give Adium X or Fire a try.

  • Pesonally, I prefer Adium to Fire because it uses less screen real estate and TABBED WINDOWS! I still don't understand why other IM makers haven't figured it out yet...

  • Also Proteus (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/mac/12703) is a good choice.

  • iChat in Tiger might be multi-protocol-capable with a little work. iChat server in tiger server, is basically a jabber server. So iChat is a jabber client. On a jabber server you can configure msn/yahoo/.. transports, so it should be able to talk with msn people through ichat. Sadly, I don't have developer-seed-access, so I can't test this. Maybe someone else can.

  • Question. What's happening in a year? Is iChat going multiprotocol? I didn't get that impression...

  • "Is iChat going multiprotocol?"

iChat server, shipping with Tiger (maybe just Tiger server) will use Jabber so I could only imagine that iChat will speak Jabber as well. I've seen no comment as to whether iChat will support Y! or MSN.

  • Jason, be sure to check out Fire again in the near future. We have been working hard since the latest release and the next version will contain such goodies as the tabbed windows you love so much, message display based on Apple's WebKit, and many other UI improvements.
