Did you know that Command-clicking the menu bar window title bar in a Safari window gives a pop-up menu breaking down the entire path to the document you're currently looking at?
Should that be 'command-click' the 'title-bar' as opposed to 'menu bar'? If I 'command-click' the menu bar I don't see anything different. However, if I 'command-click' the title bar (in the window, where the title of the document window goes...), I get the drop-down list you describe...
If there is an icon in the title bar you may also Drag&Drop it to - copy the files path into a Terminal window - move/copy/link the file in the Finder (use modifier keys) - use it as any dragged icon
Migrators to Apple's new operating systems talk about their experiences. Some of them come from Classic MacOS, some from Windows, and some from other Unixen.

It works for most applications. In Finder, try command clicking the icon in the title bar, you would see the path to that directory.
Also in most applications, if you command click on the document icon, you should see the path to the file.

Title bar, yes, not menu bar. Corrected. Early morning slip of the mind.
